New Commons – Terms of Service

1. About New Commons
New Commons is an independent civic platform that enables users to:
- View proposed and existing legislation.
- Express their views on public proposals and parliamentary bills.
- See aggregated, constituency-level results.
- Compare public opinion with the recorded votes and stated positions of Members of Parliament.
New Commons does not replace Parliament, conduct elections, or exercise legal authority. It exists to improve transparency, participation, and understanding within a representative democracy.
2. Acceptance of These Terms
By accessing or using New Commons, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.
If you do not agree, you must not use the platform.
3. Eligibility
You must:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Provide accurate information when creating an account.
- Use the platform lawfully and in good faith.
We may restrict or suspend access if these conditions are not met.
4. User Accounts
You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
- All activity that occurs under your account.
You must not:
- Impersonate another person.
- Misrepresent your constituency or identity.
- Attempt to manipulate votes, engagement, or data.
5. Public Proposals and Votes
User submissions, votes, and comments:
- Represent expressions of opinion, not legally binding decisions.
- Do not constitute legislation, legal advice, or official parliamentary action.
- May be displayed publicly in aggregated or anonymised form.
Public support for a proposal may influence political discussion, but New Commons makes no guarantee that any proposal will be adopted, sponsored, or enacted.
6. Content Standards
You may not post content that is:
- Unlawful, defamatory, or harassing.
- Incites violence or hatred.
- Deliberately misleading or fraudulent.
- Designed to disrupt or undermine the platform's integrity.
We reserve the right to moderate, remove, or restrict content that violates these standards.
7. Intellectual Property
All platform design, code, branding, and original content belong to New Commons or its licensors.
You retain ownership of content you submit, but by submitting it you grant New Commons a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, and analyse it for platform purposes.
8. Accuracy and Availability
We aim to keep information accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee:
- Completeness of legislative data.
- Continuous availability of the platform.
- Error-free operation.
The platform is provided "as is".
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, New Commons shall not be liable for:
- Political decisions made by third parties.
- Reliance on platform information.
- Losses arising from platform downtime or errors.
Nothing in these terms limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate access if:
- These terms are breached.
- Use undermines the platform's purpose or integrity.
- Required by law.
You may stop using the platform at any time.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
